No. 065 A Crown for Us Non-Royals...

There has been so much excitement about the ‘Royal Wedding’! I have so busy lately and a bit on the sidelines of the commotion. Talk about the royal treatment!!!

Now, the idealist (or should we say the realist) side of me this Friday has our delicate human lives a bit romanced.

Each of us entirely ( and royally ) unique. Creative, driven, or carefree. Legs are long or short. Eyes dark or light. Your experiences, your learning, your gifts. Your children your family your friends. Only we get to live our lives and it only happens once. Don’t we all get caught up in the run of life- treat ourselves poorly, criticize ourselves, ask too much of our tired little bodies just trying to keep up.
Knee deep in a pile of laundry. Hitting the work force in a pencil skirt and heels. Driving the kids. Searching for jobs.

A quick crown for all you Non-royal babies.

Because. Really. Aren’t we all children’s children’s children of long ago kings and queens?

Do something to treat yourself royally this weekend. I’ve decided to take a mini health retreat. No more artificial sweetener (psh- this is terrible, but should I really be downing chemicals?) even more veggies, fish, and add in wellness tea and YOGA.

What can you do to give yourself the royal treatment this weekend?

Too much sop for your morning? Happy Friday to my non-royals!!!! Xo Jessica Rae

(Starting with one of my own royal ladies...)

No. 063 Avroko- Restaurant Eye Candy!

Happy Monday! I hope you all had an amazing Easter weekend. Monday has me in the mood to share a long time personal favorite in restaurant design. I've had a long term obsession with the work done over at Avroko. Kings of the restaurant design world, this little firm is so incredible! I am always so impressed with their moody industrial designs, heavily saturated by uniquely portrayed themes. Right down to the details of packaging, signage, labeling... I could go on. Please enjoy and do take a look over at their work!! The spaces they create are the epitome of what I love about design that lies on the edges of Lovely and Ugly. Gritty and fantastic. In fact... they have a book called 'Best Ugly' ( Ironic No??? )

Please enjoy....

Happy Earth Day (and Friday as well)! Nature is one of my biggest inspirations... and has always been a driving force of design and fashion. As designers, it's an important factor in all that we do and select. Even the little bits can help allot. We recently started a green initiative at our office to cut back even more on waste- no more paper plates, cups, or disposable wear (this is tough for an office of over 80 people!! ) How do you do your part?

No. 061 My Design Life; Desinger/artistry

I was recently asked by a ***Major Blogger to paint her icon/image for her blog! I'm so excited to tell you more about this commissioned piece once she is ready to release it. Waiting on pins and needles. I've been a busy bee when it comes to art and design lately... I'm working on two villa/lux residence projects in China right now at my design job, which I am loving.

Later I will be drooling over my favorite restaurant design firm Avroko. This am?

I've added a personal favorite print to my Esty. Titled Deliverance and featuring this quote from Chuck Palahniuk

"Deliver me from Swedish furniture
Deliver me from clever art

May I never be Content

May I never be complete

May I never be Perfect."

Also The End of the Earth...

With recent sales in Hollywood, Los Angeles, and Colorado... Many thanks to my wonderful supporters and appreciators of my work. I couldn't do it without you.

No. 060 Flaunt Your Best Assets!- Midweek Obessions

Time for another installment of my midweek obsessions! This week? Hands down... flaunting your best assets this season. Summer is my favorite time of the year, and as it gets closer, its a great time to think about that extra skin, house guests, and how to flaunt our very best assets!
Here's to FRAMING--- body and walls.

One of my favorite things about design is that it translates into all areas: fashion, interiors, architecture, art! You name it. Framing can be used highlight your favorite features. Want to show off your legs? Crop out your midsection? Draw attention to your favorite art print? Framing is key. Think about weight, size, color, or tossing in creative combinations. Be it your shortest shorts and casual and clever layers… or the wooden casing around a doodle on your wall- This season let’s get brainstorming on how to show off our favorites!

xoxo to the season…

The shorties are from here - the frames are from years of collecting... if you have an sources feel free to add them!

No. 058 DIY- Honestly.. WTF GENIUS!!!

Yep. I said it. And you can't just throw out the word GENIUS often. This DIY bracelet idea has been on my mind for months and when my Friday run took me by a little hardware store on Venice Blvd... I picked up a whole slew of these gold hex beauties.
I kind of love my new bracelet. And it only took me about ten minutes....

Start with some string....

Add Hex nuts...

Knot the string together at the top ( I used three strands bunched together- nine total ). Braid the strands for a few inches, then begin adding hex's at each strand, just thread on before you cross over!

Le Fine! I added the tassle idea myself.

All you need?
  • Friendship bracelet style string
  • Small Hex nuts
  • Tape (you're going to want to tape it down while you are working.
  • A very small amount of talent with threading and braiding
I had originally seen this idea here- on Honestly...WTF. This well titled page is going to make you think... why didn't I think of that? about a million times over. They probably have better directions too :)

Now for some sun at the beach...

xoxo lovelies- Jessica Rae
